LOCAL mental health support services will soon benefit from a $300,000 federal funding program launched at a forum in Narrabri.

The money will go towards reforming the mental health system and introducing recovery focused support across 50 different services in New England and North West regions of New South Wales.

The program is part of the Partners in Recovery (PIR) mental health initiative, which is led by Sydney-based organisation, Richmond PRA, and made up of representatives from individual organisations across the region.

RichmondPRA New England Manager, Jim Booth, said organisations could apply for funding to make small changes to the way they deliver mental health support.

“We are funding organisations to bring recovery into their day to day services, that may mean changing policies and procedures, or the language used in brochures, talking about wellness rather than illness and introducing a mind shift when it comes to mental health,” he said.
