Bringing you up to date with the NDIS | Maitland Mercury

Wed Oct 22, 2014

The Maitland community is invited to attend a free barbecue where people with an interest in mental health issues can obtain important information on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, which will roll out shortly in the region.

The gathering is an early opportunity for the community to find out more about the NDIS and how it can help people affected by a mental health issue – not just people directly affected, but also their families, friends and carers.

The Maitland LGA will be the next Hunter region to benefit from the full roll-out of the NDIS from July 2015, following NDIS trials in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie that started in mid-2013.

The information event is being arranged by RichmondPRA, an NDIS service provider in the Hunter and one of the region’s – and Australia’s – foremost not-for-profit organisations providing community-based support for people with mental health issues.

RichmondPRA NDIS business manager Mark Cliff said the gathering would be the first of many Maitland-based initiatives aimed at ensuring local people with an interest in mental health issues were ready for the NDIS arrival.
