Headspace locked in | Barrier Daily Truth (Broken Hill)

A new centre to help young people with mental health problems or other issues will be able to support about 100 clients a month when it opens early next year.

Confirmation came through last week that Broken Hill will be getting its own federally-funded “headspace” centre in 2017 - some six years after efforts to have one established here were first initiated.

The centre will act as a “hub of support” where people aged 12 to 25 can access a range of health-related services as well as drug and alcohol support and counselling and vocational and educational services.

Flourish Australia, which is managing the centre, said that young people in rural and remote areas were among some of the most vulnerable in the nation.
