Work has started on a new youth mental health support centre in the city.

The countdown is now on for the formal launch of the headspace youth mental health centre.

Building work is underway at 231 Blende Street, following a complex process to obtain development approval and a builder.

The former water board premises is being reconfigured and fitted out internally to ensure full headspace services can be delivered.

Until it opens, consortium members are working to introduce interim services that include youth mental health assessments and support, alcohol and drug support, vocation and education services as well as external referrals to other local services.

These services will be offered in coming days from the office of Flourish Australia - the Far West NSW headspace lead agency - at 142 Argent Street.
