IT IS hoped a federal spending splurge will prevent New England mental health patients from falling through the cracks.

Mental health providers in the region have said the lack of coverage by the National Disability Insurance Scheme has seen issues needlessly compounded.

The federal government recently pledged $80 million towards "national psychosocial support" which will help people deemed ineligible for the government's disability insurance because they can't prove it "permanently" effects their day-to-day life.
