WOLLONGONG clown doctor Michael Jacques was the winner of a small grant at the first Illawarra SOUP Central community event in Wollongong on Friday.

Mr Jacques is returning to the work he loves best and his pitch was so heartfelt everyone was left in no doubt about how passionate he was about spreading cheer to sick children in hospital.

‘‘I am trying to get back into the hospital system to help sick kids, but unfortunately I had some of my items stolen,’’ he said.

‘‘I lost my clown gear, my stethoscope, my coat and some of my puppets. So I am just trying to build back up. I used to do it quite a lot. I am now looking to try and do it with mental health as well.’’

Mr Jacques recently performed at an open day at New Outlook and has offered to help out with Mental Health Awareness Month activities in the mall.

He has brightened many children’s days in hospitals such as Westmead and Campbelltown, but he wants to do more in the Illawarra.
