The Mental Health Commission of NSW is leading the development of the Strategy for Mental Health and Wellbeing in NSW. It will include a focus on the mental health service system as well as the broader goal of better mental health and wellbeing for all in the community. This will include a broad, coordinated effort across all areas of government to prevent suicide.
The commission seeks to engage with and learn from anyone with interest in and insights about mental health and wellbeing in NSW. This includes:
- people who have lived experience of mental health issues and psychological or suicidal distress, and the lived experience of their carers, families and kinship groups, including those bereaved by suicide
- community members
- the community sector (e.g. peak bodies, community managed organisations, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health organisations, not-for-profit organisations)
- state and commonwealth government organisations and initiatives
- private sector organisations
- academic institutions.
This consultation is not intended to ask about individuals’ own mental health and wellbeing. Rather, it is asking for opinions about the mental health service system and about community mental health and wellbeing.
How to participate
The consultation is open until 5pm, Friday 29 August 2025. Visit the NSW Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy website to find out more and have your say.
There are two ways to participate:
- The 5 minute online survey is best for individuals, but anyone can complete it. The survey asks your opinion about mental health services and mental health and community wellbeing. It can be done anonymously.
- Written submissions are also invited. This is the best option for organisations but it is open to anyone.
The commission will also be holding targeted consultations over the coming months, including community visits and virtual roundtables with stakeholders and government agencies.
