Flourish Australia welcomes new standards to improve community mental health care

Flourish Australia has welcomed new standards introduced to improve community mental health care.

The National Safety and Quality Mental Health (NSQMH) Standards for Community Managed Organisations – developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) – provide a framework for delivering safer mental health care in Australia.

Approximately 100,000 Australians access support from community mental health providers like Flourish Australia.

The new guidelines introduced will include safety measures and national quality standards.

Flourish Australia CEO Mark Orr welcomed the new guidelines saying they give those accessing support services peace of mind.

“We want those accessing Flourish Australia’s services to know that they are being cared for by staff with the correct credentials and appriorate training and that the level of support they are receiving is of the highest standard” Mr Orr said.

The new guidelines have been developed by consultation with the community mental health sector, something Mr Orr said will be vital to the guidelines longterm success.

“These new guidelines have been developed by and for the sector, they reflect the history and importance of community mental health, it’s long term future in Australia and the approach of those in the sector to proving support."

"Flourish Australia wholeheartedly welcomes the implementation of these guidelines to ensure those who access our services and those of other providers continue to receive world class support.”
