Celebrating Wear It Purple Day: Embracing Diversity and Inclusion

Wear It Purple Day happens every year in August. It unites people globally to support and include LGBTIQA+ young people. Started in 2010 to address discrimination and bullying, this day promotes wearing purple to show support for LGBTIQA+ pride and unity.

The day serves as a catalyst for conversations about LGBTIQA+ issues in communities, schools, workplaces, and homes. By wearing purple attire and accessories, participants ignite discussions about the challenges faced by LGBTIQA+ youth, dismantling stereotypes and fostering acceptance.

LGBTIQA+ youth often confront heightened mental health struggles due to societal pressures. Wear It Purple Day shows support for LGBTQIA+ young people, letting them know they have a caring community by their side. Demonstrating solidarity promotes positive, affirming environments that significantly impact the well-being of LGBTIQA+ youth.

This celebration extends beyond clothing. Flourish Australia is supporting Wear It Purple and amplifying the call for inclusivity. Such collaborations underscore the vital role of community engagement in building an understanding and equitable society. Celebrating diversity becomes a cornerstone for collective growth and prosperity.

Wear It Purple Day underscores the year-round values of acceptance and inclusivity. By joining this event, we help create a world where everyone can be themselves regardless of their sexual orientation or gender.

We were delighted that people across the organisation, from the Senior Leadership Team and our Support Hub teams to staff providing supports, wore purple on the day to show their support.
