As the end of financial year approaches, the Flourish Foundation is calling on the community to support mums and children at risk of being separated due to homelessness and complex mental health challenges.
Across Australia, many mothers are facing multiple barriers at once—trauma, housing instability, and mental health challenges—without access to the coordinated support they need. When these challenges go unsupported, the consequences can be devastating, with families at risk of being separated.
The Flourish Australia Women and Children’s Program is working to change this.
By providing a safe home alongside specialist mental health care and practical supports, the program helps mothers and their children stay together while building a pathway to recovery and stability. Rather than addressing issues in isolation, the program supports the whole person—recognising that lasting change comes from integrated care.
For Becca, this support came at a critical moment.
After experiencing a lifetime of trauma and facing homelessness following the birth of her son, Becca was at risk of losing him. Without a safe place to go, she faced the very real possibility of being separated from her child.
Through the Women and Children’s Program, Becca found safe accommodation where she could stay with her son, alongside the support she needed to begin healing.
“I finally understand how to break this cycle — for good,” she shared.
Today, Becca and her son are safe, together, and building a more stable future.
Stories like Becca’s highlight the impact of this support—but they also point to a growing gap. For every family that can access the program, many more are still missing out on the care they need. Demand continues to exceed capacity, leaving too many mums and children without a safe alternative.
More than 300 families have already been supported through the program, finding safety, stability, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives together. But without additional funding, many more will remain at risk.
This tax time, donations can help expand access to this life-changing support.
Every contribution helps provide safe housing, specialist mental health care, and essential resources for mums and children facing crisis—giving them the chance to stay together and build a better future.
And with donations over $2 tax deductible, this is a meaningful way to create real impact before 30 June.
Because with the right support, families can stay together—and cycles of trauma can be broken for good.
