I don’t know about you, but as a Sydney-sider the month-long rain we have experience had been a little hard to endure. The arrival of the sun, once more, in our skies in the last week has been reassuring and more than welcome.
Like long periods of bad weather, life’s challenges can impact on us in different ways. They are always more manageable if we can get through them with others by our side.
This month, Kiri’s story about a disability led art group not only provided a sense of belonging for her, but important messages for her children about diversity and inclusion. Our Community Advisory Council is another example of how we can do things together and, in the Council’s role, help Flourish Australia be the best organisation it can be meeting the needs of diverse people with lived experience.
The development and launch of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan has also been an opportunity to reflect walking and working together; how this can progress our commitment to reconciliation; and how we can be part of the larger movement. Flourish Australia supports The Uluru Statement from the Heart and reconciliation, and the RAP helps bring that to life in very practical ways.
Through the RAP, and more generally, we show our commitment to walking together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities across the many Nations and places in which we work; respecting and celebrating culture; and moving forward, together, with hope.
Responding to The Uluru Statement’s invitation, let’s walk together on that journey, through the rain and sunshine.
