National Close the Gap Day

March 17 th is National Close the Gap Day.

Observed on the third Thursday of March, National Close the Gap Day shines a spotlight on the unique health issues and challenges faced by Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Peoples.

Since 2006, the day brings together community advocates, medical experts and policy makers all over the country to advocate for more equitable health outcomes for indigenous people.

This year’s theme is 'Transforming Power: Aboriginal and Torres Strait-Islander-led Transformation, Gender Equality and Allyship.’ This theme pays tribute to the resilience and leadership of indigenous communities in responding to the pandemic and recent natural disasters.

The campaign encourages people and organisations to plan events and activities that draw attention to indigenous health issues and to support meaningful change.

You are also invited to attend the launch of the 13th annual Close the Gap Campaign report, which will take place this year as a   Zoom webinar

Flourish Australia urges everyone to get involved in the day and to sign the pledge demanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health equality within a generation, which you can do so here:  https://antar.org.au/closethegappledge
